Editorial – Debit Card Trap – NYTimes.com.
This is what I got hit with from my credit union, Nevada Federal Credit Union. I was able to opt out, but what a pain! NFCU refused to handle it over the phone, so I had to go into the office in person.
You may be able to check with your bank and find out if you have been enrolled in one of these overdraft scams (a 3,500 percent APR is a usurious SCAM). If so, find out if you can opt out. Then your debit card will decline any overdrafts, as it should unless you expressly approve such fees.
I filed this under my “Assholes” category, because only an asshole would cook up a deceptive manuever such as this. Consumers should be outraged.
